Remolding technology comes primarily from Europe. Unlike yesterday's retread, state of the art new tire technology is used to produce a product that has the quality and appearance of any 'major' manufacturer's tire. You can find out more about Green Diamond's tire remolding process here.
Tire remolding is responsible, scientific, and safe. Most airplane tires are remolded! (over 90%)
Each tire that is remolded saves 6 gallons of crude oil, recycles several pounds of steel and keeps perfectly good tire casings from clogging landfills.
With pressure differential testing and laser microscopy, testing casings is a scientifically controlled process. Only the best are re-used. Tire degradation comes from under-inflation. Tires are built to last far longer than their tread life allows if they are cared for. Trucks re-use casings an average of 8 times before they are retired to a landfill. Nine out of ten truck tires that you see on the roadside failed because of under-inflation. Over 90% of airplane tires are remolded. Beware of the myth that new tires are better – New tires use more resources, cost more, have to be changed out each Spring and Fall, last no longer, and do not stop as well on ice. If they are studded, they wear out much quicker than Green Diamond Tires and stopping distance with studded tires is 30% longer on dry pavement –that is a long way! It is like a dog trying to stop on a hard wood floor. Studded tires reduce safety margins on dry roads.
